It’s March 10 again, the first day of novena prayer to St. Joseph in preparation for his feast day on March 19. Never pass a day, any trial in your life, or any petition without invoking the powerful intercession and patronage of this powerful saint! Jesus and Mary obeyed the glorious patriarch as the head of the Holy Family on earth, what more now he is in heaven and who is called the Protector of the Universal Church, your prayers thru his intercession are closer to Jesus and Mary.
- March 10-18: Nine days novena
- March 19: Feast of St. Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary
- (FYI: May 1: Feast of St. Joseph the Worker)
From the words of St. Teresa of Avila: “To other saints, Our Lord seems to have given power to succor us in some special necessity,” she wrote, “but to this glorious saint (I know by my experience), he has given the power to help us in all things. Our Lord would have us understand that, as he was subject to Joseph on earth — St. Joseph, bearing the title of his father and being his guardian, could command him — so now Our Lord in heaven grants all his petitions.”
AN ANCIENT PRAYER TO SAINT JOSEPH
“This prayer was found in the 50th year of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In 1505, it was sent from the pope to Emperor Charles when he was going into battle. Whoever shall read this prayer or hear it or keep it about themselves shall never die a sudden death or be drowned, nor shall poison take effect on them—neither shall they fall into the hands of the enemy or be burned in any fire or be overpowered in battle.
Say for nine mornings for anything you desire. It has never been known to fail, provided that the request is for one’s spiritual benefit or for those whom we are praying for.”
O St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, I place in thee all my interests and desires. O St. Joseph, assist me by thy powerful intercession and obtain for me all spiritual blessings through thy foster Son, Jesus Christ Our Lord, so that, having engaged here below thy heavenly power, I may offer thee my thanksgiving and homage.
O St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating thee and Jesus asleep in thine arms. I dare not approach while He reposes near thy heart. Press Him in my name and kiss His fine head for me, and ask Him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath.
St. Joseph, patron of departing souls, pray for me.
‘Go to Joseph!’
V. He made him the lord of his household;
R. And prince over all his possessions.
